東日本大震災から丁度一年経ちましたね。。。
いまだに信じられない。
あんなことがあったなんて。
あんな数多くの尊い命が奪われ、どれだけ苦しい想いをしてきた日本の人々、、、

生き残った私達も怖かった、不安も沢山抱えてきたけど、
今ここにいる私達は生きている。
生き残った意味がある。
それはなんなんだろう？

もっと命を感謝すること、
人を大事にすること、
人の心を意識すること。
被災者だけでなく、現地の隣の人も。

命よりも宝物はこの世にはない。

そんなことを、世界中の人々に教える役割が私達にはあると思う。
世界中に愛をもっともっと広める為に生き残ったんではないかな？

3-11は私達をひとつにしてくれた。
他の人の苦しみは自分の苦しみだと感じさせてくれた。
あの思いやりは私達を強くしてくれた。
あの思いやりをけして忘れたくない。
年に一度ではなく、毎日、これからもずっとみんなとひとつでいたい。
これからも一緒に強く生きて、上を向いて歩こう。

まだ大変な毎日を送っている被災者には一日も早く楽な生活を送ってもらいたい。

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since the 3/11 earthquake & tsunami in Japan. There are still thousands missing & thousands homeless. While we go on with our daily lives, we should always remain conscious of those still suffering. More than anything, though, I hope that we can maintain that same compassion that brought us together then, now. We must remember that we are ALWAYS one. Not only in times of crisis, but at all times. Just as we come together to feel compassion for victims of various disasters and world crisis’, let’s feel it for the stranger sitting next to us. Let’s feel it for everyone in the world.

3-11 taught us compassion. It brought us together to feel eachother’s pain as our own. Let’s not forget to live with compassion for one another daily. As those who survived and those who are alive in general, I think we have a duty to keep that compassion and love for one another alive. I feel that we survived in order to spread that love as far across the universe as possible.

I dedicated this song to the 3/11 tsunami & earthquake victims of Japan at a benefit concert held in Tokyo on September 3, 2011 and I dedicate it to them once again.

Amazing evening the other night playing at “Kamome” in Yokohama — one of my favorite clubs in Japan. These guys are BEASTS!!!! Yasumasa Kumagai on piano, Ryu Kawamura on bass, Satoshi Yoshida on guitar, and FUYU on drums. It was an unbelievably tight “band sound” even though it was our first time performing together & we only ran through the music for sound-check the day of… They GET me & the music I wanna create. It made me wanna play with these guys regularly, every chance I get. Just imagining how tight we’d be if we could rehearse & play together regularly is making me hella HYPED!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for coming & witnessing the beginning of something very special & dear to my heart :) I love you all!!

My girl SHANTI, a beautiful singer-songwriter in Japan is coming out with her 3rd Album (from Columbia Records) on Feb. 22! I was lucky to be asked to sing backgrounds for her song “Lotus Flower” which ended up being the title of the album.

It’s a wonderfully uplifting song with a lot of energy & groove. She sounds amazing & so does the band! It was also a highlight & great pleasure to get to know & work with Ty Stephens, an incredible singer from New York. We had so much fun laying down the harmonies together! (He was out here touring as a background singer for one of my favorite Japanese soul singers, Toshinobu Kubota)

先日は帯広からいらしていた佐藤さんご家族にデビュー2周年のお祝いをしてもらいました！！
久しぶりに感動と喜びの涙を流しました。(T.T)☆

音楽が大好きな佐藤さんは北海道ホテルで毎年ライブイベントを企画していて、
去年の2月、私を出演させてくれました。

デビュー当時からずっと私を応援してくださっている
こんな佐藤さんがお祝いしたいって言ってくれたことだけで嬉しかったのに
どんどん凄くなっていきました。

表参道にあるCasitaと言う素敵なレストランに連れてってもらい、
着いた途端に案内してくれたスタッフの方が「あ、マヤさんですか？」と。
え？何で私の名前を知っているのー？！って驚きましたが、お店に入ったら謎が解けました。。。

なんと、私の名前が書いてあったいろーんなものをご用意して頂いていたからです！

キャンドルホルダーも私のHPのイメージ！！

メニューからナプキン、シャンパンやお水のボトルにも「MAYA」

お料理もめちゃくちゃ美味しければスタッフも一人一人ご丁寧に挨拶しに来てくださり、お祝いのお言葉まで頂きました。
とっても楽しいディナーが終わってから一端外のベランダに移動し、
お店が風船を用意していたので願い事を込めて空に手放してみましょうと。

世界中の全ての人々が幸せになれること。そして歌で人に幸せを届けられますように〜☆ 。。。と自分の夢を強く意識しながら風船を空へ離しました。

店内へ戻ったら最後にデザートが用意されてました。
このケーキを見た瞬間に涙がポロポロと溢れてきました。(T.T)

こんなスペシャルな気持ちにさせられ、ここまで私を意識してくれたこと、私と私の夢をこんなに大切にしてくれたこと。
全てに感動しました。言葉に表せないほどの感謝と感動。

佐藤さんご家族、本当に有り難うございました！！！！！！！！！！！！！(^o^)☆♪
一生忘れません。

これをきっかけにもう〜、本当に本っっっっ当に真剣に頑張っちゃうぞ〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜！！！！！！！！！！！

I had one of the most magical experiences of my life the other night. Sato-san & his family from Hokkaido held a Debut 2nd Year Anniversary dinner for me the other night. Sato-san is a lover of music and coordinates annual concerts at the Hokkaido Hotel in Obihiro. Last February, he allowed me to perform there. He’s supported me since my debut but I didn’t realize just how much he cared about me until this evening. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Everything said my name on it. The menu even congratulated me on my 2nd year!!

After a delicious and laughter-filled 5-course dinner, we were asked to step out onto the balcony for a special activity moderated by the restaurant. They gave us all balloons and asked us to make a wish and release the balloon into the sky. After I made my wish of reaching all people with my music & making all people happy, I felt hopeful, uplifted and inspired. We stepped back inside for the last course of the evening– dessert!! :)

Once I laid eyes on this cake, tears started streaming down my face. The cake had candles lit & images of me singing. Even my logo (∞) written in chocolate!! I was so touched. I felt so appreciated, so special. Like I was significant & my dreams were totally attainable. I could feel my dreams coming true…

I am so grateful to Sato-san & his family. What a night to remember… for the rest of my life.
It was such a lesson in reminding people of their worth & making them feel special & acknowledged. That’s what moves people. I hope you know just how special you are. You are irreplaceable & sooo important to this world!!

I am so grateful to each and every person who feels something from my music & has shown me their support. THANK YOU!!!!! I am so inspired to work my hardest to bring out my full potential this upcoming year!! Let’s make it a great year where every person is treasured.

来年4月から使われる中学2年の英語教科書「ONE WORLD English Course 1〜3」に収録される
『Elm Tree Dreams』と言う曲の録音に参加させて頂きました。

歌は私、宮本貴奈さん(p)のアトランタトリオが伴奏。作曲は神山純一さん、そして作詞は浦島久さん。

「〜夢を追いかけて〜」というテーマ曲で自分が日本で過ごした中学生の頃を思い出し、
今夢を追いかけている自分が中学生の子ども達のためにそんな曲を歌えて本当に嬉しかった。
とてもスペシャルなレコーディングに参加させて頂き、ありがとうございました！！！(m_ _m)（涙）

I recorded vocals for “Elm Tree Dreams,” a song which will be included in the English textbook “ONE WORLD English Course 1〜3″ and used by junior high school students in Japan as of April 2012. The song is about pursuing our dreams and making an effort to fulfill them. Since I spent my middle school years living in Japan, this project was particularly special for me. I felt a real connection to the lyrics and hope that the students who hear & sing this song are inspired to make all their dreams come true.

Since Thanksgiving is a day dedicated to sharing one’s appreciation, I would like to share my appreciation for YOU!!

2 years ago, on November 18, 2009, my debut album “My Foolish Heart” was released. Since then, I have been BLESSED to perform all over Japan, star regularly on a famous children’s TV show, feature on albums of artists I admire, sing for a major commercial… just to name a few of the many opportunities I’ve been lucky enough to receive. Thank you thank you THANK YOU to every single person who has touched my life & supported my career thus far. I love you and am truly grateful & blessed to have your support!!!

When’s my next album coming out?? My 2nd album will be released sometime in 2012. I cannot wait to share it with you! My sound & voice & vision — so much has changed for the better. I have grown so much since the recording of my first album in June of 2009, so I think it’s safe to say you can expect a completely new & improved Maya Hatch!! ;)

As for now, please come celebrate this special milestone with me at Body & Soul, the very first jazz club I appeared at in Japan.
